After the Texas A&M Aggies dropped out of the Gator Bowl, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons were left without an opponent. Many believed the bowl game would be called off, as they had to search for a new opponent. However, it seems the Rutgers Scarlet Knights are up for the task.
According to the Rutgers Football Twitter account, the Scarlet Knights have become the replacement team for the Gator Bowl. With COVID-19 running rampant through collegiate and professional sports right now, the Aggies find themselves on the outs.

It's been a wild college football year for Rutgers, but they're more than deserving to be a replacement team for a bowl game. The Scarlett Knights finished with a 5-7 record this year. It's not great, but they were one of the best teams available to replace Texas A&M.
Article Continues BelowAt first, Wake Forest was going to have to wait and see if another bowl game would be impacted by COVID. Fortunately, that didn't happen and Rutgers stepped up to the challenge instead. This should be an interesting matchup, as both schools aim to bring home the Gator Bowl.
This would be a fantastic way for Rutgers to close out their 2021 season. Although they struggled throughout the year, clinching an upset win over Wake Forest would be massive for this football program. The Scarlett Knights haven't been a great football school for quite some time, so this is a big game for the seniors involved.
Make sure to catch the Gator Bowl, as the game kicks off on December 31st. Wake Forest is likely the favorite, but Rutgers will give them a run for their money. At the end of the day, this should be one of the more fun games to close out the year.
