The biggest injury for the New Orleans Saints in Week 2 was the one that came to Drew Brees, but they'll be without one of their defensive starters for the rest of the season. On Monday, the Saints placed Alex Anzalone on injured reserve with an unknown ailment.

During Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams, Anzalone started the game but he continued to play in just 18 of the 70 defensive snaps. Presently, there is uncertainty surrounding what caused him to land on IR. However, there's a possibility that the linebacker re-injured his shoulder.

The Saints selected Anzalone in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Florida. As a rookie, the former Gator started in four games before his season ended prematurely due to a shoulder injury. In those four starts, Anzalone totaled 16 tackles, one sack, and a pass deflection.

After injuring his shoulder in 2017, the inside linebacker was able to play in all 16 games for New Orleans in 2018. In addition, he started in seven games last year and was able to corral 59 tackles, two sacks, and an interception.

Despite playing in every game, he still dislocated his shoulder and decided to get surgery during the offseason. Coming into Week 2, Anzalone has played in both games, but he has been limited in the first two weeks.

The Saints recently traded for Kiko Alonso from the Miami Dolphins. With Anzalone being out for the rest of the season, expect to see more of Alonso with the starters. Alonso has combined for 354 tackles, five interceptions, and six forced fumbles in the past three seasons with the Dolphins.
