In the first two games of the 2018 season, New Orleans Saints star quarterback Drew Brees has been off to a strong start out of the gate that has put him on pace to surpass some major NFL milestones.

According to Jeff Duncan of The Times-Picayune, Brees is nearing becoming the all-time leader in completed passes toppling Hall of Famer Brett Favre that should likely occur in Week 3 action against the Atlanta Falcons.

Drew Brees is on the verge of a significant NFL record.

He needs to complete 14 passes against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday to break Brett Favre's mark for career pass completions. Favre retired in 2011 with 6,300 completions. Brees enters Sunday with 6,287.

Throughout his NFL career with the Saints, Brees has become one of the league's most prolific passers behind his impressive production on a yearly basis that helped construct what could be a first-ballot Hall of Fame career. He has continued to perform at a high level this season as he has 682 passing yards on an 81.3 percent completion rate with five touchdowns to no interceptions.

This has seen him complete north of 25 passes in each contest, which should continue to remain the case as the Saints are relying on him more heavily with Pro Bowl running back Mark Ingram still serving his suspension that runs through the first four games of the season. Brees has shown that he is more than capable of handling that increased workload that has been typically been on his shoulders before the team had more balance in the offense with their two-headed attack in the backfield with Ingram and second-year running back Alvin Kamara.

Once Brees passes this mark, the next huge career milestone on the list is the all-time passing yard record that is currently held by Peyton Manning. He is sitting at third on that list being 711 yards behind Favre and 814 yards to pass Manning to be at the top in league history. If he continues to pass for an average of 271.3 yards per game over the next few weeks, he should hit that record at some point in Week 5 against the Washington Redskins on Monday night.
