The New Orleans Saints have to retool this offseason in order to contend for the NFC South title. With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beginning to dismantle, they have a great shot. They came into this offseason with a messy cap situation but have worked tirelessly to fix it.

After restructuring some of their contracts, the Saints have made another cap space-creating move. According to ESPN's Field Yates, $10 million of Alvin Kamara's contract was converted to a signing bonus, which opens up over $8 million in cap space.

Kamara was a huge reason for the team's success last season, compiling 1,337 yards from scrimmage and nine total touchdowns in 13 games. After being arrested for assault earlier this offseason, he faces a possible six-game suspension. His terrible actions could leave the Saints without their best offensive player for a big chunk of the season.

Kamara's potential suspension is bad on its own but it is especially troubling with the makeup of the New Orleans roster. The offense is their primary need. Although star wide receiver Michael Thomas is expected to be back in action after missing last season due to ankle issues, Kamara is crucial to their offense with his rushing and receiving abilities.

The Saints have to work on bringing star tackle Terron Armstead back and solving their quarterback situation. Opening up millions of dollars of cap space with one move greatly aids their ability to improve, and therefore, to win the division.
