The New Orleans Saints have just added another running back in veteran Shane Vereen. But to make way for him, they must let someone go.

According to Josh Katzenstein of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Daniel Lasco has been the one who’s set to make way. The Saints have waived the running back with a failed physical designation.

Lasco was a former seventh-round pick by the Saints in the 2016 NFL Draft. He played in just 10 games, racking up 32 rushing yards on 11 carries. He also had two catches for 11 yards.

Lasco played just three games last year after he suffered a scary-looking spinal injury while making a tackle on special teams and had to be stretchered out. He was later diagnosed with a bulging disc, which wasn't deemed to be a career-threatening injury.

The Saints still have a handful of running backs on the roster after Lasco’s departure. Mark Ingram, Alvin Kamara, Vereen, and Terrance West are the established veterans, while Trey Edmunds, Zach Line, Boston Scott, and Jonathan Williams are the younger backs who round out the depth chart.

Edmunds, Scott, and Williams were expected to get some playing time while Ingram served out his four-game suspension. But with the additions of the veterans West and Vereen, it’s more likely that they take the majority of the snaps behind reigning Rookie of the Year Alvin Kamara on the Saints backfield.
