Sean Payton gave his farewell press conference on Tuesday, just hours after it was announced that he'd be stepping down as head coach of the New Orleans Saints. During his final address to the media, Payton touched on a variety of topics, including how he feels about former Saints players who are still in the 2022 NFL Playoffs. When discussing ex-Saints players who are currently in Cincinnati, Payton sent his well-wishes in the direction of Von Bell and Trey Hendrickson while taking a dig at Eli Apple, whom it's safe to say is not a popular figure in New Orleans right about now.

Payton's comments stem from Monday's seemingly out-of-the-blue Twitter rant from Apple. Apple took to social media on Monday to lambast the entire city of New Orleans, calling out NOLA for being the “dirtiest, smelliest city” he'd ever seen, in a series of tweets.

In addition to calling out New Orleans, Apple ripped into Saints fans, calling them the NFL fan base he hates the most, surpassing the Giants for that title.

Naturally, Apple's tweets went viral and the Bengals' cornerback faced a ton of flak for his remarks. The tweets remain up, however, so it doesn't seem as if Apple was too bothered by the backlash.

Payton, clearly, got wind of Apple's comments, and couldn't help but take a jab at the former Saints cornerback during his farewell press conference. While Payton wished Apple luck in the AFC Championship game this coming weekend, you can bet your bottom dollar that the entire city of New Orleans is hoping Patrick Mahomes goes after the journeyman defensive back and exposes him as a weakness in Cincy's secondary.
