The past week has been an eventful one for the New Orleans Saints and Alvin Kamara, with his looming contract extension being the topic of discussion. Amid the ongoing rumors and reports, Sean Payton shared that the Saints are ‘actively negotiating' a contract with Kamara.

“We’re actively negotiating a contract with he and his agent, and we’ll keep you posted if there’s any progress,” Payton said regarding Kamara. “We’re focused on him being a part of our plan for Week One.”

Earlier this week, it was reported that Kamara was absent from training camp with New Orleans. Even though the reasoning for his absence was unknown, some believed it was contract related.

Kamara is entering the final year of his rookie deal and would prefer to have an extension in place before the 2020 season. Furthermore, reports suggest that Kamara is seeking a deal in the same ballpark as Christian McCaffrey's massive extension.

Then, seemingly out of nowhere, multiple sources reported that the Saints would be willing to trade Kamara. However, Kamara and his agent denied the rumors, saying that both sides have been working towards an agreement. And it appears Payton is singing the same tune as Kamara and his agent.

Since the rumors surfaced of Kamara possibly being traded, Payton and the Pro Bowl rusher have spoken about the situation. Both sides have seemingly gotten on the same page and Kamara returned to practice on Wednesday.

Of course, Kamara would be ecstatic to have a new contract finalized before the upcoming season kicks off. But while his agent and the organization hash out his contract, Alvin Kamara is shaping up to play in Week 1.
