The Seattle Seahawks shocked the sports world when they traded star quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos on Tuesday. This wasn't an entirely surprising move, considering that there were rumors surrounding Wilson all offseason.

It especially wasn't surprising to some, such as Wilson's former Seahawks teammates Bobby Wagner and Richard Sherman. Wagner tweeted out a reaction to the Wilson trade, which featured a shoutout of Sherman.

Wagner was obviously referencing Sherman's comments from years past and comments made on his own podcast earlier this year. Sherman, a former All-Pro defensive back, also reiterated it in his response to Wagner's tweet.

Basically, Sherman made comments years ago insinuating that Wilson was “carried” to the Super Bowl win by the Seahawks defense. However, Sherman, who just pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges, also made the point that the fans turned on the defense's stars at one point and that they would eventually turn on Wilson too, making him the hero-turned-villain.

Whether that was exactly what transpired or not, it became evident that the Seahawks and their fans don't feel as strongly about the 33-year-old Wilson as they once did, or they wouldn't have been willing to part ways with him. The nine-time Pro Bowl member was strongly linked to several teams after arguably his worst campaign with the Seahawks, as he missed the NFL Playoffs for only the second time in his career.

Now, he will officially have a fresh start with the Broncos.

It's a brand new era in Seattle, in many ways.
