The first drive of the Seattle Seahawks' bout with the Minnesota Vikings was less-than-ideal. They chose to punt it around midfield on fourth-and-1 and, worse, their starting running back Chris Carson appeared to sustain an apparent head/neck injury.

On a third-and-1 scamper for no gain, Carson took a big hit off the leg of his teammate tight end Jacob Hollister. He fell after taking the hard knee to the helmet and was down for a few seconds while the training staff urgently attended to him. Luckily, he walked off the field under his own power to the medical tent.

The Seahawks PR department is yet to release official word on Carson's injury. However, he did return to the field in the drive, defying expectations. The likely scenario is that second-year running back Rashaad Penny will get the brunt of the workload for the Seahawks' highly-anticipated “Monday Night Football” bout with the Vikings.

Carson ran three times for 12 yards before sustaining the injury. He was looking to bounce back from a poor outing against the Philadelphia Eagles, in which he ran for 26 yards on eight carries and coughed up a fumble.

Carson's 2019 campaign has been off-and-on. After rushing for 1,151 yards and nine touchdowns on 4.7 yards per carry in 2018, he has rushed for 879 yards and four touchdowns on 4.2 yards per carry in 2019. He has struggled to keep the ball with the Seahawks on the year, fumbling the ball seven times through 11 games.

The Vikings marched down the field after Carson's injury, getting a touchdown after two big plays.
