The Seattle Seahawks will struggle to retain three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Jadeveon Clowney in the offseason as the pending free agent has multiple suitors. However, the former Houston Texans first overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft is reportedly interested in re-signing with the NFC West club.

According to Josina Anderson, Clowney, 27, told the ESPN reporter, “After spending the last year in Seattle and seeing how they do things, I would definitely like to return. However, I'm also open to new opportunities if it comes down to that.”

Anderson also pegged the Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants as the big names for teams pursuing Clowney in free agency. After giving up a big haul—linebackers Jacob Martin, Barkevious Mingo, and a 2020 third-round draft pick—to the Texans, the Seahawks went all in on Clowney to shore up their defensive line and add some pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Now Seattle could see the former South Carolina standout leave in free agency.

The Seahawks could choose to spend the big bucks to keep Clowney, but of course it won't be cheap. Clowney didn't have a fantatsic single season with last year's NFC Wild Card winner, with injury limiting him to 13 games. On the outside, he was less effective than his normal self, posting just three sacks and 21 tackles, but Clowney certainly pressured the QB and made his presence felt, also contributing seven tackles for losses, 13 quarterback hits, and picking up his first career interception in Week 4 against rookie gunslinger Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals.

Whether Jadeveon Clowney's potential sole season with the Seahawks will be considered a success or not may be left for interpretation should he sign with another team in the offseason.
