The Seattle Seahawks don't really have a great track record of keeping their star players long term, particularly on defense.

Cornerback Richard Sherman walked following the 2017 campaign, and the Seahawks just traded defensive lineman Frank Clark.

So, naturally, with linebacker Bobby Wagner entering the final year of his deal, there is some trepidation about whether or not Seattle will re-sign him, especially considering that Wagner is representing himself in negotiations.

However, fellow Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright is confident that Wagner will return:

“Bobby knows what he is doing,’’ Wright said, according to Curtis Crabtree of Pro Football Talk. “It’s going to be really exciting to see everything pan out. He’s going to be a Seahawk for life. Go get a hell of a deal done. So I’m excited to see how it all turns out.’’

Oddly enough, it was the other way around last year, as Wagner was pushing for Seattle to retain Wright, who was set to be a free agent. Things worked out, as the Seahawks ended up re-signing him on a two-year deal.

But Wagner is looking for a much bigger payday than Wright and has said he is looking to exceed the $17 million annually that C.J. Mosley received from the New York Jets earlier this offseason.

Still, Wright is steadfast in his stance that Wagner will be in the Pacific Northwest for the long haul:

“A hundred percent,” Wright said. “The Seahawks know the defense wins football games and if you want to have a chance at keeping this franchise successful (and) making the playoffs. You’ve got to get the best linebacker in the game signed. It’s a no-brainer to me. Healthy, balling … all the signs to me say get it done.”
