As if season-ending injuries to running backs Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny weren't enough, the Seattle Seahawks suffered another blow to their offense on Sunday.

After losing to the Arizona Cardinals, head coach Pete Carroll announced that left tackle Duane Brown would undergo knee surgery. Though not out for the rest of the season, he will not play in Week 17 against the San Francisco 49ers. He will have surgery on Monday.

“He needs to get his knee fixed,” Carroll said on Sunday, via the team's official website. “He tried like crazy to get through it this week and just couldn’t. he did everything he could during the week and couldn’t get it to quiet down. He just needs to get his knee cleaned up. It’s not a major surgery, but the discomfort is just—he can’t play. He’s going to get operated on tomorrow.”

There is an outsider shot Brown comes back at some point in the postseason.

“It’s a couple week deal here if we’re lucky, so that’s why we went ahead rushed to it to try to get him back, because it was not showing signs of improving,” Carroll said.

Brown did not play in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals. Instead, Jamarco Jones got the start. Carroll noted that they thought Brown could play until he ultimately couldn't, resulting in swing tackle George Fant continuing to practice in his usual role of jumbo tight end.

Since acquiring Brown in the trade deadline in 2017 from the Houston Texans, the 34-year-old has given Russell Wilson the best left tackle play of his career.
