Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is entering the final year of his current contract, so he wants a new deal by April 15. But just how much will Wilson earn on his next contract?
Well, BetOnline.ag has set the over/under at a staggering $175 million, which would make him the highest-paid player in the history of the NFL.
Wilson is coming off arguably the best season of his career, as he threw for 3,448 yards, 35 touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 65.6% of his passes and registering a passer rating of 110.9 en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.
The 29-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Wisconsin and North Carolina State, was originally selected by the Seahawks in the third round (75th pick overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft.
He was immediately named Seattle's starting quarterback heading into his rookie campaign and was very impressive, throwing for 3,118 yards, 26 touchdowns and 10 picks while completing 64.1% of his passes and posting a passer rating of 100, making the Pro Bowl as a result.
The following season, Wilson made another Pro Bowl and led the Seahawks to a Super Bowl title, and in 2014, he took Seattle to another Super Bowl appearance.
Overall, Wilson has earned five Pro Bowl selections throughout his seven-year NFL career.
There had been some chatter earlier in the offseason that Wilson actually wanted a trade to the New York Giants, but those rumors were never substantiated, and it now appears that the Cincinnati native will be in Seattle for the long haul.
