The Seattle Seahawks welcomed a slew of new faces to the team this offseason. However, it is the absence of a familiar one that has them most concerned.

Safety Earl Thomas has been a no-show for team activities throughout the offseason. According to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, head coach Pete Carroll says the team is still working on his looming contract situation:

Pete Carroll says team is “working on” the Earl Thomas situation. But says he hasn't talked to Thomas this week

The update from Carroll hardly suggests any timetable for his return. However, it does show that Seattle is still doing what it can do get Thomas back at practice. The Seahawks have undergone some major changes this offseason that some them part ways with a number of their key players. That said, having Thomas around would certainly pay huge dividends for the team.

However, Thomas has made it clear that he wants a new lucrative contract, and for good reason. The six-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro has long been considered the gold standard at the safety position. He is coming off another stellar campaign in which he registered 88 tackles, two interceptions, and seven pass breakups. That said, it appears Thomas is looking for some long-term security.

Unfortunately, it remains to be seen whether or not the Seahawks are willing to give it to him. They have adamantly denied any notion of the team being in a rebuild. However, it would become increasingly hard to deny if they are not going to pay one of the best players in the NFL.
