The Seattle Seahawks defeated the previously undefeated San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football, but they did so despite a significant issue with fumbling the football. That is something head coach Pete Carroll knows can't continue going forward because it will prevent them from winning games.

The Seahawks fumbled the ball five times against the 49ers with three of them resulting in giveaways. Carroll said the coaching staff has made it clear that not having turnovers is key, and players aren't buying in.

“It is the most emphasized aspect of our program but, it isn’t good enough. We aren’t doing it well enough. Our guys aren’t buying in well,” Carroll said, via Curtis Crabtree of Pro Football Talk.

Carroll knows the team got lucky to beat the 49ers even with the turnovers, but if it keeps up they won't always be so lucky.

“We won’t have a chance,” he said. “We won’t have a chance if this keeps going on. You can’t win like that. We’re so fortunate. Think how fortunate we are to win that game, that tight of a game, and kick the ball all over the field. Terrible.”

It was also brought up from Carroll that he had a conversation with D.K. Metcalf about when it's time to stop fighting for yards and to prioritize protecting the ball. The Seahawks need him to pick his battles wisely rather than risking turning it over.

“I sat with DK on the plane last night talking for some time talking about how he has to decipher when it’s time and when it isn’t time to keep battling,” he said. “He’s been in the situation a few times already. He’s so strong that he just doesn’t go down. It does allow for a lot of guys to get a shot at him and we can’t let that happen.”

The Seahawks have a chance to win the NFC West, especially after defeating the 49ers. However, their turnover issues need to be fixed quickly.
