After back to back losses earlier this season Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said that Russell Wilson was “over-trying” and instead of just getting rid of the football it was leading to worse results. The comments raised some eyebrows at the time and still are being talked about a month later.

Now Carroll is trying to distance himself from the comments, saying the comments are being over-talked about and he actually thinks Wilson is doing great.

“That was really overplayed and it’s not a big deal at all,” Carroll said after the Seahawks practiced near London on Thursday via the Seattle Times. “He’s a great competitor. He always tries really hard, and it just kind of came out like it’s a big deal, and it wasn’t.

“He’s been playing great and really doing everything we want, complementing a running game that really is continually getting better and improving. Russ really takes advantage of that with play-action passes and the movement stuff we’ve been doing. He’s doing great.”

Since those comments, there has been a real change in Wilson's play and has only been sacked six times, down from the twelve times from before the comments. The Seahawks offensive line isn't great so all the sacks aren't on Wilson but early in the season he sure had a big deal to do with it.

Wilson also hasn't thrown an interception since the pick six that sealed the loss against the Chicago Bears. With Wilson playing better the Seahawks are turning their season around and although Carroll is trying to downplay the comments there is no question there is some truth to it.
