The Seattle Seahawks are set to sign veteran tight end Ed Dickson to a three-year contract worth up to $14 million, which includes a “fully guaranteed” first year, ESPN’s Josina Anderson reports.

Dickson, 30, could be a candidate to start for the Seahawks, who just lost Jimmy Graham to the Green Bay Packers in free agency.

Dickson departs the Carolina Panthers after four seasons with the team. Primarily used as a run blocker, Dickson saw his role in the Panthers passing attack increase significantly after Pro Bowler Greg Olsen went down with a broken foot. He started 12 of the 16 games in Olsen’s place, recording 30 catches for 437 yards and a touchdown. He had tallied just 37 catches for 370 yards in his first 48 games with the team.

Dickson’s arrival is the latest in a host of changes the Seahawks have made up and down the team this offseason. Apart from Graham, they’ve also lost wide receiver Paul Richardson, who signed with the Washington Redskins. They’ve also let go of running backs Mike Davis and Thomas Rawls. Meanwhile, they have also made some major changes on defense, with Michael Bennett, Richard Sherman, and Jeremy Lane being moved on.

While Dickson is not going to be the dynamic playmaker that Graham was at the tight end spot, Dickson will at least be a reliable set of hands who will share snaps with fellow tight ends Luke Willson and Nick Vannett. His abilities as a run blocker should also help the Seahawks improve their ground game, which has been trending downward over the last couple of years.
