The Seattle Seahawks have been looking to add a veteran running back in free agency, with their sights set on Devonta Freeman. However, after talks with Freeman sputtered, Seattle has decided to sign Carlos Hyde, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Seahawks were pursuing Freeman, with Seattle offering the former Atlanta Falcons running back a one-year, $4 million deal. To the dismay of the Seahawks, Freeman turned down the offer.

With Freeman seeking more than Seattle is willing to pay, the Seahawks evidently turned their attention to Hyde. Hyde, who played last season with the Houston Texans, provides Seattle with an experienced running back. Above all, he is likely going to be a much cheaper option than Freeman would have been.

In his lone season with the Texans in 2019, Hyde rushed for a career-high 1,070 yards and six touchdowns. Surprisingly, at 29 years old, Hyde was able to rush for 1,000 yards for the first time in his career in Houston last season.

Even without adding another running back, the Seahawks already have Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny and Travis Homer. Before targeting Hyde, Seattle considered bringing back Marshawn Lynch for another year. Near the end of last season, Lynch rejoined the Seahawks following injuries to Carson and Penny.

Seeing that Russell Wilson is still under center, the Seahawks expect to have one of the best offenses again in 2020. Now, with Hyde joining the fray, Seattle will have a crowded backfield heading into next season.
