Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks had some interest in signing Antonio Brown, but the team ultimately decided not to pursue a deal, allowing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to add the former superstar wideout.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Seahawks did extensive due diligence on Brown and weren't comfortable signing AB despite Wilson wanting him.

Per a league source, the Seahawks performed their due diligence on Brown, doing all the homework and checking all the boxes necessary to evaluate whether Brown should be added to the roster. The Seahawks decided based on their efforts that they weren’t comfortable adding Brown to the team.

They nevertheless had to navigate the fact that quarterback Russell Wilson wanted Brown on the roster. As previously speculated, the Seahawks quite possibly acknowledged interest in Brown publicly both to placate Wilson and to ensure that someone else would swoop in and get him.

That’s what the Buccaneers did, helping the Seahawks avoid a potentially awkward moment with their franchise quarterback.

The Seahawks already have two good wide receivers in D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett on the roster. They are also 5-1 on the season and couldn't afford to add any distractions to the team.

Brown could face further potential discipline from the NFL for a pending civil lawsuit alleging sexual assault, so the Seahawks decided to pass on AB.

Seattle suffered its first loss of the season in Week 7 against the Arizona Cardinals. The game went into overtime and Arizona won on a field goal. The team will look to get back in the win column in Week 8 versus the San Francisco 49ers.
