The Seattle Seahawks made another defensive splash and added an offensive weapon on day 2 of the 2022 NFL Draft, selecting defensive end Boye Mafe out of Minnesota at No. 40, then also picking running back Kenneth Walker III out of Michigan State at No. 41.

Immediately after the Seahawks made their picks, star wideout Tyler Lockett reacted:

Some believed the Seahawks would select a quarterback with one of those picks, but they ultimately went in a different direction. Seattle's defense immensely struggled in 2021, ranking 29th in total yards, 31st in passing yards, and 17th in rushing yards. Mafe was considered one of the better pass rushers left on the board after impressing scouts at the Senior Bowl earlier this month. He's strong but also athletic, running a 4.53 40-yard dash at the combine.

As for Walker, he should certainly get some touches in the Seahawks backfield this season. This move gives Pete Carroll more options too, with Rashaad Penny getting most of the playing time in 2021. But with Chris Carson's future up in the air due to a serious neck injury, Walker could be called upon even sooner.

The Seahawks are evidently heading into a brand new era without Russell Wilson, but at least they've brought in a few quality players who can hopefully help them get back into contention sooner rather than later.
