2-time champions OG eliminated, Secret, LGD remain two-time hopefuls
Two-time TI hopeful SumaiL has been eliminated from the TI10 run last night, as Team Spirit defeated OG to eliminate them from the tournament. Team Spirit would then move forward and eliminate Virtus.pro as well. With Team Spirit facing the winner between IG and VG today, Team Spirit arrived at their position at the expense of two-time TI champions OG.
With OG eliminated, their streak has finally ended, with no more chance of them doing their threepeat. No team right now can match OG’s record two-time championship with exactly the same lineup, but there is still Invictus Gaming who can win their second Aegis, albeit with a completely different roster, as well as individuals who can get their two-time championship this year. All of these four players are at the upper bracket finals, with all still having the potential to win it all.
These four two-time TI hopefuls are Team Secret’s Puppey and Matumbaman, as well as PSG.LGD’s faith_bian and y’. Puppey first won the aegis in the inaugural The International with Natus Vincere back in 2011, while Matumbaman won with Team Liquid during TI7. Meanwhile, faith_bian and y’ won TI6 together as Wings Gaming, the last Chinese organization to win the Aegis so far. With OG gone, China can take home the aegis again this year to bring back balance to the force.
TI10 continues throughout the weekend, with the Grand Finals concluding the 2021 Dota 2 Pro Circuit season this Sunday.
