In recent years, the NBA has made a concerted effort in trying to expand the reach of the league outside the United States.

A part of that has been playing regular season games in different countries to jump start more interest in the NBA worldwide. According to Keith Smith of RealGM, the Philadelphia 76ers are set to take on the Boston Celtics in London this upcoming season.

This will mark the eighth regular season game played in London, and the second official time that the Celtics have played overseas in the city, with their first coming in preseason action against the Minnesota Timberwolves back in 2007. Meanwhile, it will also be the second game in England for the 76ers, who took on the Oklahoma City Thunder in the preseason in Manchester in 2013.

An interesting aspect to this game as reported by Yahoo Sports is that since Philadelphia will be the home team, their season ticket holders will not be charged the one game in January. The NBA has continued to broaden the game across the globe by playing games in various countries.

There have been games played in England, China, and Mexico over the last decade. There will likely be a greater expansion to host NBA games in other countries down the road.
