Philadelphia 76ers small forward Wilson Chandler will miss two to three weeks with a left hamstring strain. Chandler suffered the injury Friday night in the Sixers' preseason opener at home against Melbourne United.

Chandler will be re-evaluated in approximately two to three weeks. The Sixers open the 2018-19 regular season Oct. 16 at the Boston Celtics.

The Sixers acquired Wilson Chandler from the Denver Nuggets during the offseason. Chandler will make $12.8 million this season and become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2019. Chandler played in 74 regular season games for Denver last year and averaged 10.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. The veteran swingman shot 44.5 percent from the field, 35.8 percent from beyond the arc, and 77.2 percent from the free-throw line.

The Sixers traded for Chandler to maintain financial flexibility and reduce their luxury tax bill moving forward. Head coach Brett Brown said Chandler will be a key piece to the team this season and likes the forward’s versatility. For his career, Chandler has averaged 13.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 590 games with the New York Knicks and Nuggets.

During the regular season, Chandler will likely come off the Sixers’ bench and back up starter Robert Covington at the small forward spot. Until then, Chandler will be doing extensive rehab work to get his hamstring back in order.
