Ben Simmons sent the NBA world into a frenzy when he pulled up and splashed his first career 3-pointer in the Philadelphia 76ers' first preseason game this year. Now, Sixers fans are excited to see Simmons progress in arguably the weakest part of his dynamic game.

However, while head coach Brett Brown loves seeing the shooting development from his young star, he wants Simmons to play like an All-Defensive Team member this 2019-20 campaign. Likewise, Brown would much rather see Simmons double down on his greatest strength offensively: running in the open court.

“I am so much more on letting him feature on an all-defensive team” Brown said, per Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. “I am so much more concerned about letting him be himself in the open court, the fastest player in the NBA.”

The coach hopes Simmons feels confident enough to take a catch-and-shoot three-pointer when nobody is around him.

“But to get it all twisted that this is going to be the thing that defines him, it isn’t,” the coach said. “I feel like it’s such a repetitive conversation that I’m personally tired of it. I don’t see the world like that.”

Simmons previously said he wants to become the Sixers' best defender. Moreover, he has his eyes on winning Defensive Player of the Year.

The Aussie-born guard is already considered as one of the most versatile defenders in the league. His size, strength and athleticism make him capable of guarding all five positions.

Philly has preached defense throughout the summer. Simmons also said that the Sixers want to become the best defensive team in the league. Their group certainly has the tools and the personnel to achieve that status.
