The Philadelphia 76ers' season came to a close Thursday night. They fell to the Miami Heat in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Despite coming back from a 0-2 series deficit, the Sixers couldn't find the right answer to defeating the Heat.
Similarly, Doc Rivers seemed to have a hard time finding the right answers in his Game 6 postgame presser. According to the Sixers head coach, his team was “just not good enough” to get the job done.
The Philly Voice writer Kyle Neubeck tweeted Rivers' perturbing postgame remark.
In all honesty, this is probably the last thing anyone in Philadelphia wanted to hear. This comment makes fans believe that they just wasted another year getting their hopes up for a title, meanwhile, the coach didn't even have faith in the idea.
For the players, it had to be extremely disheartening to hear that their coach didn't believe in them. Rivers basically admitted that he threw in the towel and held up the white flag before the battle was over.
Despite the unsettling comment, Rivers feels secure in his position with the Sixers moving forward. He said he thinks he does a “terrific job” coaching the Sixers, regardless of what the media thinks.
The Sixers have a lot to figure out this offseason, from the contract of James Harden to the job stability of their head coach. It will be interesting to see who stays and who goes as Philadelphia continues its strenuous “process” towards an NBA championship.
