Newly minted Philadelphia 76ers General Manager Elton Brand believes the Sixers still need to add one more star to pair with their emerging studs, Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid.

Brand appeared on ESPN's The Jump with Rachel Nichols and Stephen Jackson, and had this to say when asked whether the team has what it takes to compete for a championship right now:

“[The Sixers] still need to add a third star. We might have that [next] superstar in Markelle or Dario Saric. Their development is [just as] important…Everyone talks about free agency but we may have to pull the trigger on something else before free agency.”

The 76ers hired the 17-year NBA veteran to lead their front office this past week following the departure of former GM Bryan Colangelo back in June.

While Brand feels that the Sixers need one more piece, he did acknowledge that the third piece might actually be on their laps right now. That diamond in the rough may actually turn out to be the 2017 first overall pick Markelle Fultz.

Fultz had a weird rookie season that saw him suit up for just 14 games in the regular season due to an alleged shoulder injury. Moreover, issues about his ridiculous looking jump shot surfaced even before the season started. But the former Washington Huskie looks to recover and have a breakout season following a strong summer of work, and a reportedly better looking stroke.

When asked about what he thinks will be the toughest part of his job, the new Sixers GM said that the development of this young group is priority number one.

The Sixers are boasting a young core of up-and-coming superstars in Embiid, Simmons, Fultz, and Saric. They are complemented by a steady mix of veterans in Robert Covington, J.J. Redick, and Wilson Chandler among others.
