Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid just got called for a technical foul for seemingly hyping himself up. Yup, you read that right.

On Thursday against the Detroit Pistons at home, the four-time NBA All-Star apparently got a little too excited after a throwdown on Pistons rookie Luka Garza.

Here's the play where Embiid was deemed to be too rowdy for the officials' eyes. Check it out and you be the judge:

In all fairness to ‘Troel', that was a pretty solid play and he deserves to let some steam out after converting on that one. Embiid fought hard to get the offensive rebound against the 22-year-old rookie and power dribbled his way to the rack. The Sixers star hammered it down before seemingly blurting out a few words which didn't bode well with the officials.

To the officials' defense, it's quite hard to determine who Embiid was talking to in real time. The Sixers big man was facing Garza when he was screaming so you can't really blame the officials for calling that one – especially when you take into consideration the way they've been calling these techs as of late.

That being said, this rule has got to stop. Players should be allowed to celebrate and hype themselves up after a play. Obviously, there is a line that cannot be crossed but basketball is a physical game and the league can't expect players to simply be mum after banging bodies en route to a massive poster. No wonder everyone says the league has turned soft.
