The Philadelphia 76ers saw their season end on Wednesday after absorbing a 114-112 loss at the hands of the Boston Celtics. The series lasted for just five games, quicker than what most people expected prior to the second round, but it was entertaining nonetheless. Despite the Sixers’ exit from title contention, Joel Embiid proved that Philly could succeed with him in the middle.
Embiid was a force down in the block for Philly against Boston, as he averaged 23.0 points, 14.0 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and 3.6 assists per game in the series. Embiid was also in character throughout the Eastern Conference semifinals, which was perhaps best encapsulated by his hilarious exchange with Marcus Morris in Game 4 in which he tried to talk junk to Morris only to get trolled back by the Celtics forward.
While Embiid did not congratulate the Celtics following the loss in Game 5 as he walked straight to the locker room after the final buzzer, he paid his respect to Boston and its fans through the medium he prefers the most.

The loss stings for Embiid and the Sixers, but Philly’s core is young and full of promise. The Sixers are on track to becoming a perennial playoffs contender in the Eastern Conference with Embiid and Ben Simmons leading the team in the coming seasons. Another playoff appearance should not be out of the question for the Sixers, who are also rumored to be in play to sign LeBron James in the summer.
In Game 5, Embiid scored 27 points to go with 12 rebounds, four blocks, and four assists in 39 minutes of action.
