Less than two hours before the NBA trade deadline expired, the Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers pulled off a massive trade that is sure to shake up the Eastern Conference. The Nets sent James Harden and Paul Millsap to Philadelphia in exchange for Ben Simmons, Seth Curry and Andre Drummond.
The trade prompted Sixers superstar center Joel Embiid to share his thoughts on social media.
Embiid posted the meme referencing the RIPBOZO made famous on Instagram in 2015. The image was posted to illustrate someone appearing at one of his haters' funeral to make sure he was dead.
Embiid and Simmons have no love lost between them. Simmons ripped both Embiid and head coach Doc Rivers, prompting the Sixers big man to fire back.
Simmons had held out all season and has not played for Philadelphia. Sixers general manager Daryl Morey said all along that he did not want to move Simmons unless he landed a superstar in return. He appears to have accomplished that goal by landing James Harden.
Harden comes with his own baggage. He is known as a ball-first point guard and reportedly does not have the best reputation around the league. But the move likely makes sense for both teams.
The Nets have lost nine straight games and it appeared as though Harden had thrown in the towel in Brooklyn. He will get a fresh start on a thriving team in Philadelphia and play alongside Embiid. Meanwhile, Simmons finally will get back on the court. When Kevin Durant returns from injury, one would think that Simmons' game suits playing with Durant better than Harden's ever could.
