Julia Sweeney, former SNL cast member, recalled a letter received from Hillary Clinton after she impersonated her daughter, Chelsea.

Back in January 1993, Sweeney played a teenage Chelsea in a sketch (Phil Hartman and Jan Hooks played Bill and Hilary in the sketch).

On Dana Carvey and David Spade's Fly on the Wall podcast (via Entertainment Weekly), Sweeney revealed that Clinton was so mad, that she “wrote a letter” to Lorne Michaels in response to the sketch.

“People were saying how unattractive I was playing Chelsea, and all I did was not wear makeup and put braces on,” Sweeney recalled. “If you say that, you're saying I'm unattractive!”

However, she claims she “wasn't trying to play [Chelsea] unattractive,” though she doesn't believe making a joke of someone's child on national TV was a good idea, either. Clinton's letter to Michaels voiced her disapproval over the sketch.

“I just didn't wear makeup and put on braces,” the SNL alum continued. “That was it, and a wig. A long wig… [but] I understood what Hillary was saying, especially now that I'm a parent. It's like, yeah f**k off. I mean, don't play kids. That was wrong. She was right, that was wrong.”

Julia Sweeney was a “featured player” on SNL for four seasons from 1990 until 1994. She has also starred in several films including Stuart Little and Father of the Bride. In recent years she has appeared in the likes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, American Gods, Shrill, and Work in Progress.

SNL will return to NBC once the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are over.
