After receiving transfer interest from Chelsea and Liverpool, Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul has now reportedly made a decision on his club future.

According to the Spanish-based outlet Mundo Deportivo, Saul is expected to stay on with Atletico Madrid for this season.

As mentioned, Saul attracted the intrigue from Premier League sides Chelsea and Liverpool over the ongoing summer transfer window.

The report adds that Chelsea had been in contact with Saul over a possible permanent transfer deal. However, the last proposal that the Spanish midfielder received from Chelsea did not convince him enough to push for an exit from the reigning La Liga winners.

Thus, Chelsea has pulled out of the transfer pursuit of Saul. Barring any last-minute changes over the final week of the transfer window, the Blues will not reengage in transfer talks for the veteran.

Saul had also garnered interest from Liverpool over the past month. The Reds had been scouring the transfer market in search of a midfielder to replace Georginio Wijnaldum, who wound up leaving for Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent. A transfer fee of a mere £35-£40 million was floated around in such talks, but Liverpool elected not to further pursue a deal for the longtime Atletico Madrid talent.

Mundo Deportivo further notes that one of the motivations Saul had in snubbing both clubs was the “affection” of Atletico Madrid fans, as they have remained loyal to the midfielder for years.

More so, Saul's relationship with Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is said to be “good” to the point where the Argentine coach often consults the midfielder over tactical matters.

Saul is currently in his landmark 10th season with the La Liga side. He is well expected to continue to be a mainstay in the team's starting lineups throughout the season, whether as a midfielder or a fullback.
