For the first time in three years, the United States men’s national team faced off with a side from the CONMEBOL, as it finished with a scoreless draw result against Uruguay on Sunday.

Missed goal-scoring chances became the theme of the match. The USMNT logged nine total shots, which included a pair of attempts by Jesus Ferreria. In the end, the USMNT failed to muster up a single goal on the day.

On the other hand, Uruguay orchestrated key goal-scoring chances of its own as well. Still, players such as veteran forward Edinson Cavani struggled to find the back of the net in the contest.

Overall, USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter was pleased with the effort from his team in this international friendly encounter.

“The guys competed at a very high level,” Berhalter said after the result.

Berhalter featured some of his regular talents for the match against Uruguay, including Christian Pulisic. The Chelsea forward took on a role of a playmaker in the fixture, creating four goal-scoring chances for teammates. Still, the USMNT did not build on its three-goal outing in the friendly win over Morocco.

A pair of Concacaf Nations League group stage fixtures await the USMNT up next, including a clash with Grenada on June 10.
