Manchester United is looking to fortify the defense this summer and new manager Erik Ten Hag has already identified some potential transfer targets for the club. Amid frequent links to Ajax star Jurrien Timber, the latest Manchester United transfer rumor suggests the club has significant interest in Braga defender David Carmo.
According to Manchester Evening News, while Timber is believed to be Ten Hag's top option at the position, the club is also considering a move for the Portuguese center half, though he may be considered a fall-back option to Timber. Manchester United has reportedly held two sets of negotiations with Braga regarding a potential summer transfer involving the 22-year-old.
It's worth noting that Timber is experienced playing both in central defensive positions as well as out on the flank, leaving the door open for Manchester United to bring in both young defenders. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been linked with a move away from the club, as both Roma and Crystal Palace have expressed interest in the out-of-favor right-back. If he leaves the club, United would be rather shallow at the position, and Timber could compete with Diogo Dalot for the starting role out wide.
Carmo just recently earned a call-up to Portugal's national team in May, the first of his career, and a move to Manchester United would be another major accomplishment for the young defender.
Carmo has played three seasons in Liga NOS, Portugal's top flight, all at Braga. During his time at the club, Carma featured in a total of 42 games, starting 39. Last season, he played in 12 games for the club that finished fourth in the division.
