As Manchester United continues to weigh its options regarding the club's next head coach, Derby County skipper Wayne Rooney has seen his name bounced around a time or two. The Manchester United legend has long been tabbed as a potential manager of the future for the club, and he spoke out on the matter again on Monday. Via Fabrizio Romano, Rooney revealed that he would love to one day become manager of Manchester United, before clarifying that he doesn't feel he's currently ready for the responsibility.

“I got offered the Everton job, but I want to be the Manchester United manager” Rooney said via The Sun. “I know I am not ready now but I have to plan everything I do to make sure one day it will happen.”

Well, there you have it, folks. It's certainly in Rooney's plans to one day take over as manager of Manchester United, but the club legend wants to be in the best possible position to succeed when he takes over. Rather than rush into the role, Rooney seems determined to gain more coaching experience before making the leap to arguably the biggest coaching job in world football.

Ralf Rangnick is serving as manager for Manchester United currently, though it's not expected the team will retain him at the season's end. While some were hoping to see Rooney make the leap to United this summer, it seems more likely that any deal for the 36-year-old will take place a few years down the line.

Rooney is under contract with Derby County, who are dead last in the EFL Championship. That's no fault of Rooney's however, as the club was harshly penalized, being stripped of 21 points, due to various sanctions.
