The college basketball season is over for almost all of the teams across the country. With that, the coaching carousel is spinning, and St. John's and Georgetown are two of the bigger openings this time. However, South Florida is another intriguing one, and the Bulls are reportedly set to bring in former Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey, according to Russ Wood of Bulls Insider.

“Former Notre Dame coach Mike Brey is expected to become the next men’s basketball coach at South Florida, sources told BullsInsider.com on Monday. The university has not issued a statement at this time.”

Well, there it is. In a bit of a surprise decision, former Irish HC Mike Brey is expected to come to South Florida. However, Pete Thamel of ESPN mentioned that no offer has been made.

Nonetheless, there seems to be a legitimate interest in Mike Brey coming to USF.

Mike Brey's Time At Notre Dame

Brey spent 23 years in South Bend, compiling a 483–280 record and 13 NCAA Tournament appearances with a pair of trips to the Elite Eight.

Earlier this year, Mike Brey made the surprising decision to leave Notre Dame at the end of the year after an 11-21 year and a 3-21 mark in the ACC. However, it wasn't a retirement announcement, and now it looks like Brey is headed to South Florida.

South Florida Needs A Facelift

The Bulls moved on from Brian Gregory after a  79-105 in six years, and the Bulls have not made an NCAA Tournament appearance since 2021. With Brey coming to town, the expectations should be through the roof, especially after he spent the past two-plus decades with the Irish.

South Florida finished with a 14-18 record and a 7-11 mark in the AAC, so Brey has a lot to work to do.
