The Los Angeles Sparks announced that guard Lexie Brown will miss the remainder of the season with a non-COVID-19 illness, according to Alexa Philippou of ESPN.

Lexie Brown posted a thank you message on Twitter.

“Thank you to those who have sent me positivity and prayer. I'm doing and feeling much better 💜💛” Brown wrote on Twitter.

Brown also posted another message on Instagram.

“been a rough few months, but happy that my health is headed in a positive direction. minor setback but nothing i can't handle. thank you everyone for the kind words this season,” Brown wrote on Instagram.

The Sparks released a statement on Brown as well.

“While Lexie is progressing, after thorough consultation with her, the Sparks training staff, and team doctors, it has been determined that the best decision is to allow Lexie to focus on rest and recovery,” the Sparks' statement said, according to Philippou. “The Sparks fully support Lexie through this process and appreciate respect for her privacy. A further update will be provided when available.”

Brown played in 12 games for the Sparks this season, starting 11 of them. Her last game of the season was in July, when she returned for three games, but ultimately got sidelined again.

While the exact nature of her illness has been kept private, Brown has said that she has been “in and out of the hospital for months now,” according to Philippou.

The Sparks are 15-20, half a game ahead of the Chicago Sky for the final playoff spot. The Sparks have five games left, while the Sky have four.

Los Angeles will have to make the playoffs without Brown in the lineup.
