The Los Angeles Sparks take on the New York Liberty. Our WNBA odds series has our Sparks Liberty prediction, odds, and pick. Find out how to watch Sparks Liberty.

The New York Liberty finally lost. They had won eight games in a row and were rolling along, but the Phoenix Mercury cooled them off earlier this week. The Liberty led by seven points going into the fourth quarter, but they got smoked in the final 10 minutes by a 30-17 score. Phoenix came from behind to win 99-93 and snap New York's winning streak. The Liberty are tied for second place in the WNBA at 12-3 with the Minnesota Lynx. New York had the second-best record in the WNBA last year. The Liberty are still on course to finish as the second-best team in the league this year and make their way to the WNBA Finals. What is different this year is that the first-place team is not the Las Vegas Aces, but the Connecticut Sun. If you told the Liberty and their fans, right now, that they will meet the Sun in the 2024 WNBA Finals, they would sign on the dotted line in an instant. The Phoenix loss in no way alters any broader perceptions or evaluations of the Liberty this season.

The Los Angeles Sparks are dealing with the news that No. 2 WNBA draft pick Cameron Brink is out for the season with a torn ACL. The injury knocked Brink out of the 2024 Summer Olympics and the Team USA 3 X 3 women's basketball competition. The Sparks now have to reconfigure their rotation and find sufficient ways to replace Brink's defense and rebounding. It will be fascinating to see how Los Angeles handles this challenge.

Why The Sparks Could Cover The Spread

The Sparks are without Cameron Brink, and that obviously means Los Angeles will not have her defense and rebounding. However, Brink was not an elite scorer in her first year of WNBA basketball. Brink's main tasks were at the defensive end of the floor, so she didn't look for her offense. That is going to be the element of her game which will slowly and gradually develop, so it's not as though Los Angeles is missing a big-time offensive threat. The reconfigured player rotation you will see from the Sparks in this game might be more effective at the offensive end of the court. The Sparks might lose defense without Brink, but they could gain on offense and score enough points to cover the very large spread. New York just got back from a long road trip in the West and might be slightly fatigued, enough to enable the Sparks to keep this game close.

Why The Liberty Could Cover The Spread

The Cameron Brink injury leaves the Sparks without the interior defense they will need against the potent and balanced Liberty. New York is one of the best teams in the WNBA, and it should be able to figure out how to carve up the Los Angeles defense in its diminished state.

Final Sparks-Liberty Prediction & Pick
