Oliverson was with his teammates in Williamsport, Pa. when he fell from the top bunk of a bunk bed, resulting in a fractured skull that required emergency surgery. Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts caught wind of the terrifying incident and left an inspiring message for Oliverson, <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2022/08/17/little-leaug-easton-oliverson-breathing-tube-removed-receives-promising-mri-scan/">via TMZ.</a></p><p>In his message to Oliverson, Betts told the young Little Leaguer that the team was praying for him, while sending him his well wishes. Oliverson recently awoke from a coma and his parents told TMZ that Easton was “alert enough” to receive Betts’ message.</p><p>In a statement, the Oliverson family verified that Easton had seen the video and even started to cry after hearing Betts’ encouraging words. Mookie Betts is Oliverson’s favorite MLB player, so to receive a message from the Dodgers’ star was an emotional experience for the 12-year-old.</p><p>The Oliverson family said that Easton had been making significant progress, though they’re still asking supporters to continue sending their prayers. Oliverson has had his breathing tube removed and was even able to drink water and consume food, which are important steps in his recovery.</p><p>Oliverson is a pitcher and a catcher for the Snow Canyon Little League team out of Utah. He suffered the worrying injuries on Sunday night after falling from his bunk bed. For him, what’s important is the Dodgers got the 4-2 win and they took the series after dominating the first two outings as well.</p><p>“No, not at all,” Betts said when asked if there is any significance for him to reach the home run mark, per <a href="https://dodgerblue.com/mookie-betts-career-home-runs-not-important-focused-dodgers-winning/2022/07/24/" rel="noopener">Dodger Blue</a>. “Just got to keep on rolling. We won the game, that’s all that matters.”</p><p>It’s easy to see where Mookie Betts is coming from, though. While the Dodgers are on a roll and leading the whole National League with a 63-30 record heading to Sunday, they can’t be complacent.</p><p>Betts and the rest of the team cannot take their foot off the gas pedal and slow down, especially since they know they can see their place on the standings fall off easily if they lose focus.</p><p>Dodgers fans, however, have every reason to believe and be confident about their chances every game with Betts leading the way. The 29-year-old is is actually just 11 homers away from setting a new career high, and it’s not hard to see the star right fielder doing so with the way he’s playing.</p><p>His teammate Freddie Freeman is just as excited as other LA fans, knowing for a fact that Betts will continue to dominate the game.</p><p>“Five tools. What he does day-in and day-out, you guys saw what he did at the All-Star Game, just a special person being able to do those kind of things and standing up for what he believes in,” Freeman said of Betts. “Then go out and show what he does on the field. Now in Los Angeles, he is a regular in what one can argue is the best rivalry in the National League today with the Dodgers and Giants.</p><p>Speaking to <a href="https://www.foxsports.com/watch/play-5ccae545e00097e" rel="noopener">FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal</a> on Saturday, Betts was asked to compare playing in the much-anticipated Dodgers-Giants and Yankees-Red Sox showdowns. From the high-scoring affairs to just how passionate fans can be during these games, much stands out to the six-time All-Star with the two rivalries.</p><p>“In Boston, it was more like a slugfest,” Betts said. “There was a lot of big hitters, heavy hitters, a lot of high-scoring games, long games. Obviously the fans are completely different. You’re in a different spot in the country. A lot of hostility going on there, and here’s a little different. You don’t have as high-powered of offenses as there.</p><p>“Fans are a little more chilled, they enjoy the game a little more. They’re not hating so much on the players and whatnot. They do have their pros and cons. I’m just blessed to be in another rivalry because it’s really fun to play in stuff like this.”</p><p>Betts had the Yankees’ number during his notable run in Boston, posting a .346 OBP to go along with 57 RBI recorded in 96 such regular season games played. On the other hand, <a href="http://fanatics.93n6tx.net/mgq3VM" rel="noopener">Betts</a> has had rollercoaster showings when going up against the Giants. He sits at a .244 batting average in 32 career contests played against the reigning National League West champions, although he has shined when it has mattered the most, such as with his .455 batting average in last season’s five-game NLDS clash.</p><p>For now, Betts’ Dodgers <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sports/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers/" rel="noopener">squad</a> has 11 total matchups left against the Giants over the remainder of the 2022 regular season, which includes a four-game road series in early August. As one of the biggest African American superstars in the sport, he’s cognizant of the representation he brings to the table with every at-bat and accolade.</p><p><a href="https://www.ocregister.com/2022/07/19/dodgers-mookie-betts-dons-we-need-more-black-people-at-the-stadium-shirt-at-all-star-game/">Via</a> The Orange County Register:</p><blockquote>“You just don’t see a whole lot of blacks playing the game of baseball – which is fine,” Betts said. “I mean, they don’t see themselves. I’m just trying to be that person they see and can become.”Betts acknowledged seeing progress in the fact that four of the first five picks in this week’s MLB draft were African-Americans.“We’re heading in the right direction,” he said. “We’re getting some culture in the game. The whole world is kind of going in that direction. So baseball needs to as well.”</blockquote><p>According to the OC Register, just 7.2 percent of players on MLB rosters are black – a number that was closer to 20 percent during the seventies and eighties.
