Don't believe everything you read on the internet. That is the message San Antonio Spurs star DeMar DeRozan sent to fans and reporters after rumors surfaced that he plans to opt out of his contract in the summer if he doesn't get an extension.

The swingman, citing his own mother, vehemently denied the rumors.

While he's shooting at a career-best 52.8 percent from the field and averaging 22.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game, questions on whether DeMar DeRozan can continue the Spurs' legacy are lingering. Not to mention his mediocre playoff performances over the years that's still a cause for concern.

Before the 2018-19 season started, there were whispers among analysts that the Spurs, for the first time in two decades, will not qualify for the postseason. Thankfully, they were able to hush their critics as they notched a 48-34 record for seventh in the West. They even extended their first-round series with the Denver Nuggets to seven games.

Now, with 19 games remaining in their regular-season schedule, the Gregg Popovich-led squad is nowhere near the playoff race. They sport a 27-36 record and would need a miracle to stretch Pop's postseason appearance to 23 straight seasons. They are in 12th place in the standings, behind the Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings and Portland Trail Blazers for the final playoff spot.

For the first time in over two decades, the Spurs are entering a critical point in their legendary franchise. Will a massive roster overhaul ensue? And how will the they deal with DeRozan's contract?
