In his latest head-turning tweet, NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins floated the idea of the San Antonio Spurs making a major splash on the trade market. However, this would not be a typical trade for the heralded Spurs, who would usually be acquiring additional talent to make a run at a title. Thanks to the team's struggles thus far into the 2019-20 regular season, Perkins believes that the Western Conference franchise should at least consider trading away swingman DeMar DeRozan and big man LaMarcus Aldridge.

The former NBA center did not have the most impressive individual career atop the highest level, though the longtime big man did play on some pretty prolific teams along the way. A former NBA Champion, Perkins is now making more than a few individual headlines these days as serving as a basketball analyst for ESPN.

While typically competing toward the top of the Western Conference from start to finish each and every year, the Spurs are not finding the same success this time around. Only a few weeks into the 2019-20 regular season, the Spurs find themselves at a dismal 5-9 on the year, which may be a sign that times are changing in San Antonio.

With longtime head coach Gregg Popovich nearing the end of his NBA coaching career and with WNBA legend Becky Hammon waiting in the wings, perhaps the time to make the official transition into the next phase of Spurs basketball is right now. With current Los Angeles Clippers swingman Kawhi Leonard no longer in town, Perkins might have a point as the tandem of DeRozan and Aldridge would draw huge value in return for San Antonio.
