Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle has had a lot of experience with going up against legendary San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich.

With the tandem of NBA head coaches becoming staples of the Western Conference over the years, Carlisle recently had some unsurprising praise for his Spurs counterpart in Popovich.

In fact, Carlisle made a point to say that Popovich is the best coach in NBA history — an opinion that many would immediately agree with.

Even though Carlisle didn't really go out on a limb to make such a statement, Popovich wasn't quick to accept the latest installment of the seemingly non-stop praise.

Of course, Carlisle is far from the first person to make this claim in regards to the longtime Spurs leader.

“He’s the greatest coach of all time,” current Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James said, via USA TODAY, back in January 2017. “I’ve said that over and over and over. You’ve got to be to do what he’s done in the era of basketball when it’s changed so much and he’s been able to have a growth mindset and be able to change with the game. He’s continued to build around Timmy [Duncan] and Manu [Ginobili] and Tony [Parker] and bring pieces in and out throughout his whole tenure.”

Popovich has notably led the Spurs to a handful of NBA championships over the years while his tenure atop the organization could unfortunately be coming to a close sooner rather than later — which also adds to the praise that he receives nowadays.
