The San Antonio Spurs face a summer of uncertainty, with several of their aging veterans approaching the end of their careers and a star forward with an unknown future with the franchise.

Kawhi Leonard, who is approaching the last two years of a five-year, $94.3 million deal (the last one a player-option in 2019-20) is in line to receive a potential five-year, $219 million supermax extension from the team. But due to the cloud hovering over his relationship with the organization, it could be a judgment call ultimately left to ownership, according to ESPN's Michael C. Wright.

“Convincing the team's former chairman and CEO, Peter Holt, and his wife, Spurs chairman and co-chief executive officer Julianna Hawn Holt, could prove to be a difficult sell for general manager R.C. Buford,” wrote Wright. “The couple is in the midst of a divorce.”

A divided opinion on the matter between the Holts could prove a true strain on the organization, who would be forced to come to an agreement on the matter with no mediator between them.

Leonard's camp has been reportedly distant from the team and head coach Gregg Popovich has pointed to that very fact in multiple occasions, as the 26-year-old didn't join the team during their postseason run, away in New York City following his recovery regimen.

The Spurs will have an “all-hands-on-deck meeting” to decide the extent of his relationship with the team, after which they will follow with the choice of offering him a contract or look for trade suitors to facilitate his exit from the organization.
