In the midst of an evident rift between Kawhi Leonard and the San Antonio Spurs, teams around the league have been preparing to call the organization inquiring for his services.

ESPN's Brian Windhorst said as a guest in Outside The Lines that due to the constant back-and-forth between Leonard's camp and the Spurs, teams will prepare themselves to make trade offers in hopes to acquire the San Diego State product.

“I have already talked to several NBA general managers. At the end of this season, teams will call the Spurs and inquire about the availability of Kawhi Leonard — and the fact that it would even happen is a dramatic shift that none of us would have foreseen coming.”

Yet Windhorst warned that he expects the Spurs to hold onto Leonard at the end of the day, but it's not a sure-fire statement as it would have been at the beginning of the season.

“I still believe that with the Spurs' track record and the kind of player and the kind of career Kawhi Leonard wants and the kind of money that's at stake. I still believe the most likely scenario is he signs an extension and stays a Spur long-term.”

“Having said that, I think that we can all agree on is that is not a certainty and that is a surprising statement from what I would have said just a few months ago.”

Another report from Nate Robinson via his podcast noted that it is Leonard who would be seeking his way out, potentially to play closer to his hometown of Los Angeles.

Seems like things aren't the nirvana that they had been believed to be in Spursland after all.
