It’s been a busy offseason for Tim Duncan. The retired Spurs legend did his part for victims of Hurricane Harvey, and when Hurricane Irma hit Duncan's birthplace of the U.S. Virgin Islands among other places, he was also on hand pledging his own money as well as urging others to donate via his moving piece in The Players’ Tribune.

Duncan’s already accomplished his initial goal of raising $1 million in donations, which he will match, but he’s not stopping there. In a video posted by The Players’ Tribune Twitter account, Duncan is asking people to continue donating to the relief effort.

Moreover, Duncan is planning to work with local Texas grocery chain H-E-B to take in food and grocery donations, per the San Antonio Express-News.

“I want to make sure it’s not a one-ditch effort,” said Duncan, who lived his first 18 years on St. Croix before moving to North Carolina to attend college at Wake Forest.

“Just, ‘Oh yeah, we went down there and did this and it’s done.’ Because the recovery process is not going to be done. It’s going to take months and even years for everyone to recover to normal life.”

Tim Duncan is quickly becoming the J.J. Watt equivalent of Hurricane Irma relief. While he still has some way to go toward matching the amount Watt has raised for Hurricane Harvey relief, he’s doing his best to chip in however he can.

Duncan is right in that it’ll take a long-term process for all those affected by Hurricane Irma to fully recover, and judging by his recent efforts, Duncan seems like he’s in it for the long haul.
