The San Antonio Spurs displayed how good defense triggers the offense on Thursday in their game against the Los Angeles Clippers at the Staples Center.

Derrick White sparked the team’s brilliant sequence at the expense of former teammate Kawhi Leonard.

The reigning Finals MVP beat White off the dribble and got himself close to the basket, but the 6-foot-4 guard managed to recover and swatted away Leonard’s shot at the nine-minute mark of the second quarter.

His stellar defensive effort led to a Rudy Gay fastbreak layup on the other end, giving the Spurs a 29-28 advantage.

White has become a regular in coach Gregg Popovich’s rotation since joining the team in 2017. Leonard, meanwhile, sat out the Clips’ last game versus the Utah Jazz due to load management.

The Spurs are looking to continue as the only unbeaten team in the Western Conference after winning their first three games.
