The San Antonio Spurs are not a team we expect to be active during the NBA offseason, although that has slightly changed in the last couple of years. While the franchise mostly utilizes the draft to select players, the summer of 2015 slightly changed things, as the Spurs signed the All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge. As the big three core of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili became older, a shift towards more free agency moves was needed.

While it was only one move with Aldridge, reports are saying that the Spurs are going to make a big splash in this year's free agency period. Per Ramona Shelburne from ESPN, the Spurs will try to sign either Clippers guard Chris Paul or Knicks guard Derrick Rose. Both are former All-Stars and both will, reports say, seek maximum contracts.

Paul spent the last six years in Los Angeles, playing for the Clippers. While Paul has amassed great personal accolades in his career, he has not enjoyed much team success. Paul's biggest success with both teams was the second round of the playoffs. Nevertheless, Paul is a future Hall-of-Famer and someone who would lift the Spurs to an even more serious title contender status.

Rose, on the other hand, is a former MVP who has been, unfortunately, ruined by injuries. Rose tore an ACL in his left knee, suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee twice and left knee once, plus various smaller injuries during his tenure with the Bulls. However, the Spurs clearly think they can ignite the former MVP's fire and turn him into a usable player.

Paul is, per reports, going to give serious consideration to the Spurs in free agency and will meet with multiple teams this offseason to discuss the possibility of leaving the Clippers. Rose, on the other hand, expressed desire to remain with the New York Knicks, per Rose's agent BJ Armstrong.
