Announced on the official NieR: Automata Steam Store Page, a slew of improvements will finally be coming to the game. These are due to release on July 15, 2021. This is an exceedingly long time when you consider that the game was first released in March 2017. But, with a game as phenomenal as NieR: Automata late is better than never.

The patch will finally allow players to play in Borderless mode. It will also apply new Fidelity FX CAS features, and automatically boot the game in HDR mode if it has been activated in Windows Settings. Additionally, the implementation of 4K UI textures and adjustments to anti-aliasing will make it into the game.

Other graphical improvements include improved bit-rate for pre-rendered cutscenes, letting them play in 60fps, and display in the correct aspect ratio. A new “Global Illumination” feature with three levels of settings will also make its way into the game. Lastly, NieR: Automata's ambient occlusion and bloom effects will now be dynamic based on the game's resolution.

Several bug fixes are also included in the patch. One of them is being able to switch between recently selected display modes for screenshots, simply by pressing the Alt + Enter keys together. Additionally, the mouse cursor will also no longer display when using a controller.

Most importantly, the game will now run at a stable 60fps under default settings. Stable framerates are definitely a must for a fast-paced action game like Nier: Automata. Now, finally, players on Steam won't need to install mods or go through several hoops to enjoy the game to its fullest.

For more on the NieR franchise, a spin-off mobile game, NieR: Reincarnation, will release later this month.
