Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Devin Bush may just be a rookie getting his feet wet in the NFL for the first time, but after spending some time around the team during offseason workouts, he is already feeling like he has established himself.
“I'm definitely feeling like a little veteran now,” Bush said, via Missi Matthews of the Steelers' official team website. “It feels real and as time gets closer to Latrobe and going to training camp, I'm just making my mind up on how I'm going to go about the offseason and get ready.”
Bush, who played his collegiate football at the University of Michigan, was selected by the Steelers with the 10th overall pick of the NFL Draft back in April. Pittsburgh traded up just to take him, which is not something the franchise typically does.
Now, the first-year player is feeling lucky to be a member of the Steelers.
“It feels like I've been here for two years already,” said Bush. “I'm just happy that I'm going through the process right now and I got a great group of guys and older leaders and coach Tomlin to be there and support me.”
Bush is coming off of a junior campaign in which he totaled 66 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and four passes defended. His best collegiate season, however, came during his sophomore year, when he racked up 95 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, an interception, and seven passes defended.
Pittsburgh went 9-6-1 in 2018, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2013.
