Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers are once again one of the top contenders in the AFC. After a slow start to the season, the Steelers are now 4-2-1 on the season. That could lead to the team looking to make a move or two ahead of the NFL trade deadline to bolster their roster, especially on the defensive side of the football.
According to a report from Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the Steelers are evaluating potential trade options for Oakland Raiders' cornerback Gareon Conley and New York Giants' cornerback Janoris Jenkins.
The Steelers are evaluating cornerbacks, with Oakland's Gareon Conley, a recent first-round pick, and the Giants' Janoris Jenkins, a recent high-end free-agent signing, both on their radar, sources said.
Both players would be nice additions and upgrades for the Steelers' defense. If they are going to compete with the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots, they will need to have as good of a passing defense as they can possibly get.
Conley has been dealing with a roller coaster season with the Raiders thus far. He has been a key piece of the defense, but has also been benched for a week. Despite all of the drama, Conley has racked up 10 tackles to go along with an interception, a defensive touchdown, and six defended passes.
Jenkins, on the other hand, has had a much bigger season for the Giants. He has recorded 33 tackles, one forced fumble, two interceptions, and six defended passes.
Both players are intriguing trade targets, but will not come cheap. Pittsburgh may not care about the asking price, as both players would also be a big help not just this season, but into the future.
