Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been the subject of a lot of criticism this offseason, as his leadership skills have been called into question following the ugly departure of wide receiver Antonio Brown.

However, fellow wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster does not feel the same way about Roethlisberger, taking to Twitter to praise his veteran signal-caller:

Oddly enough, there had been rumors that Brown was a bit jealous of Smith-Schuster for earning the Steelers' team MVP award this past season, as Smith-Schuster hauled in 111 receptions for 1,426 yards and seven touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

The 22-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Southern California, was originally selected by Pittsburgh in the second round (62nd pick overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He had a very impressive rookie campaign, catching 58 passes for 917 yards and seven scores and also taking a kickoff back to the house.

The Steelers went 9-6-1 this past season and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2013 in spite of a 7-2-1 start. Pittsburgh appeared to be a legitimate contender in the AFC, but locker room issues over the second half of the season doomed the club, opening the door for the Baltimore Ravens to nab the AFC North division title.

As a result, Roethlisberger has taken a lot of heat for causing friction between teammates, and head coach Mike Tomlin has also taken his fair share of blame for losing control of his players.

Prior to the 2018 campaign, Pittsburgh had registered four seasons of double-digit wins in a row, topping out at 13 wins in 2017.
